MARTHA S. DICKIE

Martha Dickie, a partner in Almanza, Blackburn, Dickie & Mitchell in Austin, practices general litigation. In 1977, she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Texas with a B.A. with High Honors in Plan II. After graduating from the University of Texas School of Law in 1980, Dickie served as a law clerk for U.S. District Judge Jack Roberts in Austin from 1980 to 1982. She was employed with Minton, Burton, Foster, and Collins from 1982 to 2004.

Dickie is a past chair of the Fellows of the Texas Bar Foundation. She has served as a Commissioner on the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, a board member of the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and a board member of the Austin Child Guidance Center. Dickie served on the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors (1989-1992), as trustee of the Texas Bar Foundation (1992-1995), and as president of the Travis County Bar Association (1988-1989). She also served as Master of the Austin Inns of Court, Master and President of the Lloyd Lochridge Inn of Court, parliamentarian of the Travis County Women Lawyers’ Association (1984-1985), and chair of the Criminal Law and Procedure Section of the Travis County Bar Association (1985-1986). Dickie was also President of the Austin Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates from 2010 to 2012 and chair of the Travis County Civil and Family Courthouse Community Focus Committee (2014 to 2015).

She is the recipient of the 2008 Michael J. Crowley Award, 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Travis County Women’s Lawyer Association, and the 2012 Distinguished Lawyer Award from the Austin Bar Association.

Dickie received the Outstanding Third-Year Director Award while serving on the State Bar board and Presidential Citations in 1997, 1998, 2006, 2008, 2013, and 2015 for her service to the bar. As State Bar president, she helped draw attention to the issue of depression and other mental illnesses that can affect lawyers through the important video, Practicing from the Shadows.
